1. Who I am
This website, the100yearman.com, is owned and operated by Albert Theyse, trading as The 100 Year Man, based in Ireland. I am the data controller for any personal data collected through this site.
If you have any question about this policy or about your data, write to me at contact@the100yearman.com. I read every message myself.
2. The short version
I collect your email address only if you choose to give it to me. I use it to send you the Life Planning Starter Kit and my newsletter. I do not sell it, rent it, or share it with anyone for marketing. You can leave at any time with one click, and I will delete your data on request.
3. What data I collect and why
I only collect personal data you actively hand over, plus the basic technical data any website receives when a browser loads a page.
| What | When | Why (lawful basis) |
|---|---|---|
| Your email address | When you subscribe to the newsletter or request the Life Planning Starter Kit | Your consent (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)). You confirm by clicking the link in the confirmation email. |
| Your name, email address and message | When you email me via the Contact link | My legitimate interest (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)) in replying to people who contact me. |
| Technical data — IP address, browser type, device, pages visited | Automatically, when your browser requests a page | My legitimate interest in keeping the site secure and working. Held by my hosting provider in server logs. |
I do not collect special category data, I do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16, and I do not use your data for automated decision-making or profiling.
4. Cookies and tracking
This site does not use advertising cookies, and it does not run Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel or any similar tracking script.
Some cookies may be set by the third-party services listed below — for example, my email provider may set a cookie to remember that you have already subscribed, so it does not show you the signup form again. These are functional, not advertising cookies.
5. Third parties who process data for me
I am a one-man operation, so I rely on a small number of established services. Each of them acts as a data processor on my behalf, under their own privacy terms.
- Kit (formerly ConvertKit) — stores my email list and sends the newsletter and the Starter Kit. Your email address is stored on their servers. See the Kit privacy policy.
- My web hosting provider — stores the site files and keeps standard server logs, which include visitor IP addresses.
- Google Fonts — the site loads its typefaces from Google's font servers, which means your browser makes a request to Google and Google receives your IP address as part of that request. See the Google privacy policy.
- Unsplash — some images are loaded from Unsplash's image servers, which likewise receive your IP address as part of the request. See the Unsplash privacy policy.
Some of these providers are based outside the European Economic Area, primarily in the United States. Where that is the case, transfers are covered by the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or by Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission.
I never sell your personal data. I never share it with third parties for their own marketing.
6. How long I keep your data
- Newsletter subscribers — until you unsubscribe, or until you ask me to delete your data. If you have not opened an email from me in three years, I will remove you from the list.
- Emails you send me — kept for as long as is useful to our correspondence, and deleted on request.
- Server logs — kept for a short period by my hosting provider, in line with their standard retention policy.
7. Your rights under the GDPR
Because I am based in Ireland and this site serves visitors in the EU, you have the following rights over your personal data:
- Access — ask me for a copy of the data I hold on you.
- Rectification — ask me to correct anything that is wrong.
- Erasure — ask me to delete your data (the "right to be forgotten").
- Restriction — ask me to stop processing your data while a concern is resolved.
- Portability — ask me to hand over your data in a machine-readable format.
- Objection — object to processing based on legitimate interest.
- Withdraw consent — unsubscribe at any time. Every email I send has a one-click unsubscribe link. Withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of anything done before you withdrew it.
To exercise any of these rights, email contact@the100yearman.com. I will respond within one month, as the GDPR requires. It costs you nothing.
8. Complaints
If you believe I have mishandled your data, I would like the chance to put it right — please contact me first. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Irish supervisory authority, the Data Protection Commission: dataprotection.ie.
9. Security
This site is served over HTTPS, so data passing between your browser and the site is encrypted. The services I use hold your data on their own secured infrastructure. No system is perfectly secure, but I keep the number of places your data lives deliberately small.
10. External links
This site links out to other websites and, from time to time, may link to books or products. I am not responsible for the privacy practices of any site other than this one. If a link ever earns me a commission, I will say so plainly on the page where it appears.
11. Changes to this policy
If I change how this site handles your data, I will update this page and change the "last updated" date at the top. Material changes affecting subscribers will be announced by email.
